The Education Ministry is implementing a new school curriculum that incorporates creativity, innovation and living skills into the teaching and learning process, cross-cutting every subject.
This new approach is not only applicable to science subjects but to living skills and entrepreneurship, Deputy Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin said when opening the 14th Malaysian Education Summit at the Sunway Pyramid Convention Centre.
However, the effectiveness of the curriculum would depend primarily on the ability of teachers to improve instructional practices in the classroom.
The teaching and learning strategy should employ an enquiry process approach based on constructive and contextual learning and mastery learning which incorporates a variety od students-centered techniques.
I do hope that with the implementation of this curriculum, teachers will be more innovative in their teaching and employ new approaches to simulate creative thinking of our students.
Tan Sri Muhyuddin who is also Education Minister said efforts to incorporate greater creavity and innovation in the education system would not be complete without the role of information and communication technology.
